Estelle Cascarino Returns to West Ham for Upcoming Women’s Super League Season

As preparations continue for the 2026/27 Barclays Women’s Super League season, Estelle Cascarino returns to West Ham following her summer break. The experienced French defender is back at Rush Green alongside her teammates as the Hammers step up their work ahead of another challenging campaign.

Her return is another welcome boost for manager Rita Guarino, who continues to build a competitive squad capable of improving on last season’s performances. While pre-season is focused on fitness, tactical work and team chemistry, having experienced players back in training is equally important.

Cascarino’s presence provides stability in defence and valuable leadership within a squad that will be aiming to compete consistently throughout the new season.

Estelle Cascarino ready for another season at West Ham

Since arriving at West Ham, Estelle Cascarino has become an important part of the squad. The French international has impressed supporters with her calmness under pressure, defensive awareness and ability to read the game.

Throughout her time in east London, Cascarino has demonstrated why she is regarded as one of the more experienced defenders in the WSL. Whether defending one-on-one situations or helping to build attacks from the back, she has consistently shown her quality.

Now back for pre-season, Cascarino will be looking to build on her previous performances and help West Ham make further progress during the 2026/27 campaign.

Every pre-season begins with players gradually returning after their summer holidays. However, the return of experienced professionals often has a bigger impact than many supporters realise.

Cascarino brings leadership, professionalism and consistency to the squad. These qualities are particularly valuable during pre-season, when new players are adapting to their surroundings and younger members of the squad are looking to impress.

Having senior players available also allows the coaching staff to work on defensive partnerships much earlier in the preparation period. Strong communication across the back-line can take weeks to develop, making every training session important.

As a result, Cascarino’s return gives West Ham another positive building block before competitive fixtures begin.

A career built on top level experience

Cascarino arrives back at West Ham with significant experience gained throughout her career.

Before moving to England, the defender represented several clubs in France and developed into an accomplished professional. Those experiences helped shape her tactical understanding and defensive discipline before making the move to the WSL.

She has also represented France at international level, giving her valuable experience against some of the world’s best players.

That background continues to benefit West Ham, especially during high pressure matches where composure and organisation are essential.

The start of pre-season represents an important stage for every football club. Fitness levels must be rebuilt after the summer break, tactical systems need refining and players have to regain their match sharpness before competitive football returns.

For West Ham, this period is about creating a strong foundation for the months ahead.

Training sessions become increasingly demanding, while pre-season fixtures allow players to put new ideas into practice against quality opposition. Every session offers another opportunity to improve both individually and collectively.

With Cascarino now back in training, the coaching staff can continue preparing the squad with more experienced players available.

    Defensive strength will be crucial

Success in the Women’s Super League often starts with a solid defensive structure. While attacking football naturally grabs the headlines, organised defending remains one of the biggest factors behind consistent performances over the course of a long season.

Cascarino plays an important role in that structure. Her ability to anticipate danger, win important duels and remain composed under pressure makes her an influential member of the defensive unit. She also contributes with her passing, helping West Ham transition quickly from defence into attack.

Those qualities will once again be valuable as the Hammers prepare to face some of the strongest attacking teams in England.

    Competition for places benefits everyone

Another positive aspect of Cascarino’s return is the increased competition within the squad.

Healthy competition encourages players to maintain high standards throughout training. Every position must be earned, creating an environment where everyone pushes each other to improve.

For the coaching staff, greater squad depth also provides more tactical flexibility. Different opponents require different approaches, and having experienced defenders available allows West Ham to adapt throughout the season while managing player workloads effectively.

Cascarino’s experience, leadership and defensive quality make her an important figure within the squad. If she can remain fit throughout the campaign, she will be expected to play a significant role in West Ham’s ambitions this season.
