Everton Weighs Potential Return for Manchester City’s Jack Grealish

    • Everton would be interested in a deal for Man City’s Grealish if the terms are right

    • The Merseyside club believe Grealish made a significant difference before his injury last season

    • Uncertainty over Grealish’s fitness return date is a key factor in Everton’s decision-making

Everton remains open to a deal for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish if the financial terms prove suitable, though concerns regarding the player’s recent fitness record persist.

Grealish, 30, spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Everton. His performance during that period impressed the club, despite a serious injury that ended his time at Goodison Park prematurely.

That injury disrupted Everton’s attacking rhythm during the second half of the season, leading to a decline in form. The club is now evaluating whether to pursue a second deal for the winger, recognizing the quality he brings to the squad when fully fit.

Jack Grealish receives Manchester City career lifeline as crucial Enzo Maresca talks planned

Financial factors play a major role in these negotiations. Grealish is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Manchester City and will turn 31 in September, influencing how both clubs manage a potential loan arrangement.

Boyland: Fitness uncertainty and £15M wages create significant hurdles for Everton

According to Patrick Boyland of The Athletic, Everton will only move forward with a deal if it makes financial sense. Grealish earns roughly £15 million annually, and Everton covered approximately three-quarters of that salary during his previous loan.

Boyland notes that Everton is currently uncertain about when Grealish will reach full fitness. Because the club needs a player ready to contribute immediately, they plan to wait until the final stages of his recovery before deciding on a formal transfer move. This cautious approach aligns with their need to manage financial risks while preparing for European football next season.

What does Everton’s interest mean for Grealish’s Man City future?

Everton’s interest depends heavily on Grealish’s condition, which remains a key variable for Manchester City as they manage his final contract year and the arrival of new manager Enzo Maresca.

Six Manchester City players return from loan as Enzo Maresca conducts squad assessment

Maresca and his staff intend to evaluate the entire first-team squad during pre-season. This assessment includes determining Grealish’s future, considering his age, wages, and injury status. Director of football Hugo Viana will also weigh the benefits of keeping Grealish or allowing him to leave, especially given the club’s recent spending. Ultimately, the potential for a reunion with Everton rests on whether Grealish’s recovery timeline and the financial requirements satisfy both clubs.
