Liverpool Eyes Winger Deals Following PSG’s Acquisition of Akliouche
Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on a ‘deal proceeding’. It’s one with major ramifications for Liverpool.
Liverpool are on the hunt for a new winger, and it looks increasingly likely that the player will come from Paris Saint-Germain. That’s an interesting twist, actually, as the Reds’ primary target this summer was Yan Diomande.

But Diomande rejected them, instead wanting to wait out a move to PSG. He’ll now remain with RB Leipzig for another year before presumably heading to Paris.
And so Liverpool turns their attention to the same place, but for two different wingers. Bradley Barcola is the more proven of the two and there’s absolutely interest from the Reds there. Anfield Watch first reported on that back in April, in fact.
The other is Ibrahim Mbaye. A far, far less proven talent as he’s only 18—but with arguably a higher ceiling than Barcola.

Either of them could end up at Anfield this summer. Or neither, of course.
But Liverpool received a major boost over a potential move as Fabrizio Romano confirmed PSG’s intention to sign Maghnes Akliouche. The AS Monaco star was in France’s World Cup squad this summer and was always expected to move on this summer.

A move to PSG is somewhat surprising, given the number of wingers they have, but it essentially guarantees that someone will be sold. Barcola would be the more lucrative sale, though he plays on the opposite flank to Akliouche.
Mbaye, then? Very possibly, and it was Romano again who confirmed on Friday that the teenager is in fact looking to leave PSG right now.
Something is set to happen, then. Liverpool will almost certainly kick into gear post-World Cup as the dominoes start to fall, and we imagine that results in them signing a winger.
Our guess? Mbaye. Though a move for Barcola may end up tempting them more, given his ability to have an immediate impact. Let’s see what happens.
