Headline: Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister Set to Stay Despite Manchester City Interest

Liverpool won’t lose one star to Manchester City, it seems. His father has confirmed that publicly.

It certainly appears that Cody Gakpo will leave Liverpool for Manchester City. That’s the story everyone is telling – the Reds will receive a lot of money for the Dutchman but it’s a controversial deal.

After all, selling a starting XI player to a (hopeful) title rival is mad. There’s essentially zero chance Liverpool would have entertained such a deal a few years ago – so why now?

Yes, they’ll receive a lot of money and it’s money they need but no one is particularly confident that they’ll spend it wisely. Not with the strange list of right-winger targets currently lined up.

But perhaps we should just be grateful it’s not two. Reports during the week suggested City weren’t just lining up a move for Gakpo: they wanted Alexis Mac Allister, too.

Mac Allister’s future has been a story all year as he’s the only one of the main midfielders who didn’t receive a new contract. Curtis Jones aside, of course, who was sold to Inter.

City’s interest hinged on whether they could get Enzo Fernandez, though, with Mac Allister essentially an alternative option. It appears that Liverpool won’t be losing their Argentine, however.

WinWinAllSports carry quotes from Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, who makes it clear that his son will not be leaving Liverpool this summer.

“Alexis is not thinking about leaving Liverpool,” said Carlos. “He wants to stay at the club.”

But he also made it clear that his future isn’t entirely sorted. That contract, set to expire in 2028, is not in talks to be renewed.

“Liverpool have not started talks to renew Alexis’ contract, but the player’s desire is to continue at the club,” he said.

That simply must be sorted soon.
