Unai Simón Named Best Goalkeeper at 2026 Ballon d’Or
Unai Simón, the goalkeeper for Athletic Club and the Spanish national team, has claimed the title of best goalkeeper at the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The official rankings released today by France Football and L’Équipe show that the Basque goalkeeper garnered a total of 351 points, securing a decisive lead over David Raya, who finished with 223 points, falling short by 128 points.
Thibaut Courtois completed the top three, finishing with 77 points, which places him 146 points behind Raya. Matvei Safonov ranked fourth with 67 points, just ten points less than Courtois.
The top ten list includes Emiliano Martínez (61), Vozinha (45), Joan García (34), Yassine Bounou (30), Edouard Mendy (8), and Gregor Kobel (4). With Simón, Raya, and García making it into the top seven, Spain boasts three goalkeepers among the highest ranks.
The distribution of votes within the top ten reveals a significant disparity, with the top two players accounting for a total of 574 out of the 1,313 points earned by all finalists.
