Kane Poised to Sign New Bayern Munich Contract Following Ballon d’Or Win
Harry Kane anticipates finalizing a new contract with Bayern Munich “within the next few days” after clinching the Ballon d’Or last week. The 33-year-old striker’s existing agreement is set to expire next summer, having signed a four-year deal upon leaving Tottenham in 2023.
There has been ongoing speculation about Kane’s future, with some suggesting a potential return to the Premier League to pursue Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record. However, the England captain appears ready to commit to an extended tenure at the Allianz Arena.
In a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, Kane stated, “I would say it is more (a matter of) days.” He added, “There have been good conversations over this weekend and today as well. I know I keep saying we are close, but we are extremely close now. Details are just details in every contract.”
Kane explained that while many of the significant aspects have been resolved, various minor details remain to be finalized, which typically require legal review. “So all in all I would say it is more days than weeks. From what I have heard, the conversations have gone well again today and hopefully we will be in a place to do something within the next few days.”
Last season, Kane netted 73 goals for club and country, winning two trophies in Germany while leading England to a third-place finish at the World Cup. This remarkable performance secured him the Ballon d’Or, making him the first Englishman to win the prestigious award since Michael Owen in 2001.
After showcasing the Ballon d’Or on Saturday, Kane encountered a challenging match, where he missed a second-half penalty and struck the post, contributing to Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, his first game following last Monday’s awards ceremony.
Addressing fans before the match, Kane expressed, “Hi everyone, I just wanted to say I’m extremely proud to be a FC Bayern Munich player. The support you have shown me since I arrived has been incredible.”
