Toulouse Upsets Hull KR in Betfred Super League Clash

    Betfred Super League

    Hull KR (6) 12

Tries: Minchella, Gorman Goals: Martin 2

    Toulouse (6) 32

Tries: Jussaume, Tropis 2, Marion, Ulberg, Polselli Goals: Rouge 4

Hull KR’s hopes of a top-four finish in Super League were dealt a blow when they suffered their second home defeat in five days in a shock loss to Toulouse.

The Robins would have climbed to fourth place with a win but remained in sixth, now facing the prospect of starting the playoffs away from home next month.

Mathieu Jussaume put Toulouse on the scoreboard first in the first half, as the French team shifted into high gear with Romeo Tropis scoring twice, along with Anthony Marion, Paul Ulberg, and Luke Polselli also finding the try line.

Elliot Minchella and Louix Gorman scored for Hull KR, who struggled throughout the match with a series of errors.

The Robins left out Mikey Lewis and Tevita Pangai Jr. from their squad, as their latest suspensions will not begin until next week. They made several costly mistakes, conceding unnecessary penalties—a likely result of playing their third match in just ten days.

Toulouse capitalized on their opportunity by scoring first at the 30-minute mark when Jack Broadbent missed a tackle, and Jussaume crossed the line. Hull KR responded in the 35th minute with Peta Hiku’s break setting up Minchella for a try, although a second potential score just minutes later was disallowed due to obstruction by Hiku.

Toulouse regained the lead with a spectacular try from Benjamin Laguerre, who passed inside for Tropis to score under the posts. Video referee James Vella then confirmed a third try for Toulouse when Marion broke through two Hull KR tackles in the 62nd minute.

Toulouse continued to dominate, as they drew in the home team’s defense before Ulberg scored on the right side in the 66th minute. Tropis added his second try in the 71st minute due to poor defensive play by Hull KR, and Polselli capped off the scoring by touching down his own kick under the posts six minutes later.

Gorman managed to display his speed by scoring on the left just one minute before the final whistle, but it offered little consolation for the Robins.

Hull KR: Mourgue; Davies, Hiku, Broadbent, Burgess; Hampshire, Charles; Sue, Litten, Amone, Hadley, Batchelor, Lawton.

Interchanges: Minchella, Luckley, Martin, Gorman; Leyland.

Toulouse: Polselli; Ulberg, Quai-Ward, Tropis, Laguerre; Lacans, Rouge; Belmas, Hands, Roumanos, Stefani, Jussaume, Cator.

Interchanges: Marion, Chan, Toleafoa, Wallace; Garrigues.

    Referee: Matty Lynn.

The Robins would have climbed to have fourth if they had won and instead remain sixth, facing up to the prospect of being away in the first round of the play-offs next month.

Mathieu Jussaume scored in the first half before the French side went up through the gears with Romeo Tropis crossing the line twice and Anthony Marion, Paul Ulberg and Luke Polselli touching down.

Elliot Minchella and Louix Gorman scored tries for Hull KR, who put in an error-strewn performance.

The Robins, who did not include Mikey Lewis and Tevita Pangai Jr in their squad even though their latest bans do not kick in until next week, made repeated costly mistakes and conceded needless penalties in a sign they were feeling the effects of playing their third game in 10 days.

Toulouse sensed an opportunity and opened the scoring on 30 minutes when Jack Broadbent missed his tackle and back rower Jussaume went over.

Back came the Robins in the 35th minute and Peta Hiku made the break to send captain Minchella in under the posts and they had a second score three minutes later correctly ruled out for obstruction by Hiku.

Toulouse retook the lead through a scintillating try and Benjamin Laguerre broke down the left before passing inside for Tropis to score under the posts.

Video referee James Vella then awarded Toulouse a third try when Marion went over, despite two Robins tackles, on 62 minutes.

The Robins were beaten and Toulouse took full advantage as they sucked in the home side’s defence before releasing Ulberg on the right to score in the 66th minute.

Tropis bagged his second try thanks to some shambolic defending by Hull KR on 71 minutes and Polselli touched down his own kick under the posts six minutes later.

Gorman showed his pace to go over on the left a minute from time, but it was of no consolation to the Robins.

Hull KR: Mourgue; Davies, Hiku, Broadbent, Burgess; Hampshire, Charles; Sue, Litten, Amone, Hadley, Batchelor, Lawton.
