Ferland Mendy Makes Progress in Recovery, Eyes September or October Return
Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy has taken an encouraging step in his recovery after returning to the training pitch for the first time since undergoing surgery in May.
Real Madrid continue their pre-season preparations under new manager Jose Mourinho. The squad is still without long-term absentees Rodrygo, Eder Militao, and Mendy, although the French full-back has now reached an important milestone in his rehabilitation.

First session on the pitch
Mendy completed his first running session on the pitch since undergoing surgery on the ruptured tendon in his right rectus femoris.
The defender endured another frustrating campaign last season. Despite battling back into the starting lineup under Alvaro Arbeloa, injuries repeatedly interrupted his progress.
He returned for key matches against Manchester City and later Bayern Munich, but shortly afterward suffered another setback during the league match against Espanyol, forcing him to undergo surgery in May.

Initial reports suggested that Mendy could be out for five months, putting his return closer to November this year.
However, according to MARCA, the left-back is now on course for a return sometime between September and October, in line with the club’s most optimistic expectations.
His latest appearance on the training pitch is another positive sign that his rehabilitation is progressing as planned.
Increased competition awaits
Whenever Mendy returns, he will face a much tougher battle for playing time.
Real Madrid strengthened the left-back position this summer by signing Marc Cucurella, while Alvaro Carreras, who joined the club only a year ago, is also expected to remain part of Mourinho’s plans.

That means Mendy will have to earn his place once he regains full fitness.
Despite increased competition, a departure this summer appears unlikely.
The French international is still recovering from a major injury, making a transfer difficult, while the club continues to value his defensive qualities when fully fit.
Both Carlo Ancelotti and Arbeloa trusted him as their first-choice left-back whenever he was available, and Mendy himself has no intention of leaving Real Madrid as he focuses on completing his recovery and fighting for his place once again.
