Lazio Tops Cagliari 2-1 to Claim Sole Leadership in Serie A

Lazio Clinches Top Spot in Serie A with Comeback Win Against Cagliari

Lazio has taken the lead in the Serie A table after 5,836 days, following a comeback victory over Cagliari, with goals from Gustav Isaksen and Andrea Pinamonti. The Aquile found themselves in an unexpected position after their early exit from the Coppa Italia.

Despite the absence of Albert Gudmundsson, Nicolò Rovella, and Adam Marusic, Lazio managed to secure their fifth consecutive win after Oliver Provstgaard returned from a rest following the team’s impressive 6-2 triumph over Sassuolo earlier this week.

On the other hand, Cagliari started the season strongly but faced difficulties this weekend, suffering three consecutive losses. Harry Winks returned to the squad, while only Mattia Felici and Riyad Idrissi remained sidelined.

After a promising start, Cagliari took the lead when Alieu Fadera sprinted down the right and set up M’Bala Nzola, who scored from close range. Unfortunately, Fadera had to exit the match due to a hamstring issue shortly after. Lazio responded with an opportunity from Romano Floriani Mussolini, who missed a header.

Tijjani Noslin set up Gustav Isaksen for a brilliant strike that found the top corner of the net, equalizing for Lazio. Cagliari continued to struggle, with efforts from Jacopo Fazzini and Ze Pedro failing to find the mark.

Lazio took control of the match, with Taylor’s free kick creating a chance that stung Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile. Despite several attempts, including a penalty claim from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, the home side remained relentless. The turning point came when Alfonso Pedraza flicked back an Isaksen cross to Andrea Pinamonti, who scored from close range.

As things deteriorated for Cagliari, Adam Obert was sent off with a second yellow card for a foul on the persistent Isaksen.

Lazio 2-1 Cagliari

Nzola 20 (C), Isaksen 36 (L), Pinamonti 83 (L)
