Leeds United’s recent preseason trip to North America raised eyebrows when Largie Ramazani’s name was conspicuously absent from the squad list. The decision to omit the 25-year-old winger from the tour signals a decisive move by manager Daniel Farke regarding Ramazani’s future with the club. Spanish outlet Marca reported on this important development, indicating that Ramazani’s time in West Yorkshire is effectively over.

Leeds United Drop Strong Hint on Ramazani’s Future with Preseason Omission as Valencia Interested

Valencia is keenly awaiting the opportunity to secure Ramazani on a permanent basis after his successful loan spell during the 2025/26 La Liga season. Their CEO, Ron Gourlay, reached out to Leeds officials back in June to discuss a realistic asking price.

Financial hurdles remain in negotiations. Leeds is determined to recoup a substantial portion of the £10 million paid to Almería in 2024, especially considering the 15 percent sell-on clause owed to the Spanish club. Valencia, with a much tighter budget, seeks a bargain and has proposed another loan deal with a non-mandatory option to buy. Leeds should immediately reject this, as a second loan would shift all risk to them while Valencia benefits without paying a transfer fee.

The Numbers Tell an Odd Story

Ramazani’s stint in Spain showed some promise. Under Carlos Corberan, he scored six goals and provided one assist in 22 league matches, racking up 1,224 minutes of playtime. His performance seems solid, yet a 6.62 average match rating on FotMob suggests inconsistency; he can disappear for long stretches only to shine unexpectedly.

This pattern was evident during his time at Leeds, where he made 31 appearances, including only nine starts, during the Championship title-winning season. Interestingly, his expected goals plus expected assists per 90 minutes were the highest in the division, indicating great potential that Farke’s selections did not seem to acknowledge.

Why a Clean Break Makes Sense for Everyone

Farke has made a clear decision. With a strong attacking lineup that includes Noah Okafor, Jack Harrison, Brenden Aaronson, Willy Gnonto, and Dan James, Ramazani finds himself significantly low on the hierarchy. Retaining an unhappy player only creates an unproductive situation for both parties.

Leeds United should stand firm on a transfer fee between £8 million and £9 million, ideally incorporating a future sell-on percentage in the deal. If Valencia is unwilling to meet this price, Leeds must explore other options within La Liga and the Bundesliga. There is potential for a buyer interested in a 25-year-old winger who has demonstrated his capabilities in top-flight football. The Elland Road leadership must act decisively in this scenario.
