Liverpool Looks to Reignite Interest in La Liga Forward Nico Williams

Liverpool Eyes Williams
According to Ekrem Konur, Liverpool is once again considering a potential transfer for the 24-year-old forward. However, they are not presently the frontrunners for his signature.
Speaking on X, he stated: “Liverpool are interested in Nico Williams, but Arsenal’s pursuit is currently more advanced.”
“Arsenal have made new contacts for the Athletic Club winger, with sporting director Andrea Berta assessing whether a deal is feasible.”

“His contract includes a £77m release clause, a figure Arsenal and several Premier League clubs can realistically meet.”
Why Liverpool is Pursuing Williams
At one point, Williams was regarded as one of Europe’s hottest prospects. Last summer, he nearly signed with Barcelona before unexpectedly agreeing to a ten-year contract that keeps him at the club until 2035.
However, it’s crucial to highlight that the contract has a £77m release clause.
In the 2023/24 season, Williams excelled for Athletic Club, racking up 18 direct goal involvements in 31 league appearances. He also stood out for Spain during their EURO 2024 victory.

Since then, he has recorded only ten goal involvements in his past two league campaigns (5 goals, 5 assists in 24/25 + 6 goals, 4 assists in 25/26).
He has yet to exceed 11 goals across all competitions in any single season so far. Thus, it raises questions about the true value of his £77m release clause.
Nevertheless, the potential remains evident. Williams possesses electric pace and quick feet, but he may not deliver the finishing that Liverpool now seeks in the wake of Salah’s departure, who managed 12 goals and 10 assists last season.
