But, now that they have Andoni Iraola at the helm, it already feels like they’re taking a step in the right direction.

However, in order for them to get on the same level as their title rivals, some additions will need to be made to help bolster their ranks.

And, any sort of opportunity they get to do this should be taken, especially when a Champions League player could be available for transfer this summer.

Despite Barcelona having many financial problems, they always seem to find a way to bring new players in.

Anthony Gordon is the latest player that Joan Laporta has brought in with the Englishman expected to be a regular starter for the La Liga champions.

However, much like every other football club in the world, they’re always on the lookout to improve every area of their team and, thanks to a fresh update from journalist Carlos Monfort, it seems like Barca are now on the hunt for a new centre-back.

Which, theoretically, could mean that Jules Kounde is on his way out.

“Barça, after Laporte,” he wrote via his personal X account.

“The Blaugrana club has already contacted his entourage and there will be new conversations this week.

Jules Kounde could be on his way to Liverpool

One of the main areas within Liverpool’s squad that needs upgrading is their defence.

Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate both exiting means that two massive voids need to be filled.

And, even though Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni can attempt to plug Konate’s gap, it still doesn’t feel like they’ll be enough.

Neither of them have ever played a minute of Premier League football and, since Virgil van Dijk’s contract is going to expire in June 2027, it’s unclear who’s going to take over his role if he chooses to leave.

That’s why, with Barcelona now wanting to sign Laporte, a deal for Kounde could be on.

The Frenchman has been linked with Liverpool in the past and, since he can be used as a centre-back or a right-back, his versatility would be massively useful to the Reds.

There’s still a lot of moving parts that would need to be ironed out before a deal is agreed upon but, if Laporte is welcomed to the Camp Nou, Barca might be more open to letting Kounde go, which, for Liverpool, who have a limited budget, would be ideal.
