Liverpool Eye Summer Squad Overhaul with Target Bradley Barcola

Liverpool still have a lot of changes that they need to make to their first-team squad this summer.

The 2025-26 season will be one that fans will want to forget as soon as possible.

Liverpool were expected to be one of the most dominant teams in the world with some people even suggesting that they could run away with the quadruple.

However, because Arne Slot failed to play to the strengths of his team and completely changed their playing style, nothing went to plan and the Anfield outfit ended up finishing fifth in the Premier League.

With all of this in mind, it’s hardly surprising to see how many players Liverpool have been linked with this summer and how many more they’re likely to be interested in.

But, if they want to get back to their best and want to start competing for silverware again, new additions will need to be made and, luckily for them, steps are already being taken towards the club getting another deal over the line.

Bradley Barcola’s representatives have now spoken to Liverpool about a potential move

After Yan Diomande’s transfer to Liverpool was thwarted, fans turned their attention towards other attackers that they had been linked with earlier in the window.

Said El Mala, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Yankuba Minteh are just a few of the attackers who have been linked with a Liverpool switch but, compared to Diomande, they’re nowhere near as good as the Ivorian.

However, there was another player who emerged as a potential target that certainly piqued the interest of the Reds’ fanbase.

And that player was Bradley Barcola. The Paris Saint-Germain attacker is Luis Enrique’s fourth choice up front but, thanks to his versatility and keen eye for goal, he’d be a solid acquisition for any team.

Arsenal have also been mooted as a potential option for Barcola but, thanks to the latest update from TEAMtalk, it feels like Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Frenchman.

“Despite publicly declaring Barcola is not for sale, TEAMtalk understands that privately the club are very much prepared to cash in,” they wrote.

“His deal in the French capital expires in two years, and we revealed back in June how the player has already put a freeze on renewal talks – a decision which will likely back Luis Enrique’s side into a corner, knowing that this summer represents their best chance to sell.

“Furthermore, we can reveal that intermediaries involved in the process have now communicated the financial demands to interested clubs.

“Sources close to the situation indicate that PSG are actively looking to offload players to help comply with financial regulations, and Barcola has made it clear he wishes to leave the French capital in search of regular first-team football.

“Liverpool, though, are far from the only side in the mix for his signature, and it’s reported that those intermediaries have made contact with Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all offer them a potential deal.

“For PSG, they spy an opportunity to make a serious profit on the player, and we revealed on July 9 that they will demand a whopping €150m (£127.5m, $171m) for his sale this summer.”

Bradley Barcola would cost Liverpool a fortune but he would be perfect

Obviously, replacing Mohamed Salah isn’t going to be an easy task to complete.

The Egyptian King has been Liverpool’s main attacking outlet since he joined the club back in 2017.

Admittedly, he slowed down a little bit during the 2025-26 season but, the fact that he still got 22-goal contributions despite not having his strengths played to proves how good of a player he is.

He’s still arguably one of the Premier League’s best right-wingers so finding someone to fill the void he’s left behind is a tough ask.

However, of all the options mentioned, Barcola feels like the best of the bunch.

The Frenchman has already won the Champions League twice and has scored 57 goals throughout his career.

Indeed, his best position is as a left-winger but, since Enrique has been interchanging all of his attackers over the last couple of years, he’d probably be effective anywhere in attack.

The main stumbling block of the deal is the amount that PSG will demand to allow him to leave.

Unlike some Premier League clubs, Liverpool don’t have an endless money pit and will need to spend their money wisely.

So, even though he would be perfect and would instantly boost the Reds’ chances of getting back to the top, it’s unclear whether an agreement could be reached, but, if it can, the Reds will almost certainly be challenging for silverware this term.
