Liverpool Approaches Record Deal for Star Player Amid Summer Transfer Uncertainty

Liverpool are getting closer to a record deal an it’s going to be incredible.

Once again, we are here in August and there is a genuine feeling that the club has sold itself short.

It’s been a pretty dull and slow window for Liverpool supporters. Back in June, there was plenty of talk that this was going to be a huge summer for the Reds.

The expectation was that the club would be aggressive in the market and give Andoni Iraola the tools he needs to succeed. Yan Diomande was supposed to be the big signing to replace Mo Salah, with another elite winger also expected to arrive.

    That hasn’t happened.

Liverpool missed out on Diomande and, while Ronald Araujo and Victor Munoz have added a bit more depth in defence and attack, the biggest problems in the squad are still there.

Worse still, Liverpool are heading into the season with a fair amount of deadwood still on the books, taking up valuable non-homegrown spots.

The quota is currently maxed out, meaning someone like Wataru Endo, Calvin Ramsay or Federico Chiesa needs to leave before another addition can be made.

That has created a bit of a waiting game, with deals being held up.

Liverpool are currently haggling with PSG over Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Whether they can pull off a double deal remains to be seen, but there is still plenty of work to do.

While plenty of the focus has been on Liverpool’s incomings this summer, the potential outgoings are arguably just as significant.

The Reds have already lost several hugely important figures. Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah all played major roles in the squad, both on and off the pitch.

These were not just important players. They were big personalities in the dressing room and players who had experienced the highest level of the game, won major trophies and dealt with the pressure that comes with playing for Liverpool. Younger players could look to them for advice, guidance and support.

Now, Liverpool could be about to lose even more experience.

There has been plenty of discussion surrounding Cody Gakpo, another Premier League title winner, and the feeling is that Liverpool would be willing to listen if a significant offer arrived for the Dutchman.

That is one of the reasons why the club are so keen on bringing in both Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola. Adding two more attacking options would give Liverpool the depth they need while also making it easier for Gakpo to move on if the right offer comes in.

Tottenham are interested in the Netherlands international and, given the current situation, it would hardly be a shock to see Gakpo playing in north London before the transfer window closes.

If that happens, Liverpool’s squad will look very different from the one that started the summer. And once again, it would leave Iraola with another major hole to fill.

Fortunately, the Reds are closing in on a move of their own.

When Liverpool spent a record £125m on Alexander Isak, we never thought that the Reds would break this record so quickly. At the time it was just an unfathomable amount of money to be spent on a single player.

But Liverpool set the norm and now astronomical fees are being paid for any attacker.

Liverpool’s main target this summer is Bradley Barcola and it looks like just like with Isak after a lot of waiting they are going to get their man.

However, it’s going to cost them.

Nicolo Schira reports in an exclusive on X that Barcola is closing in on a move to Anfield with the package being £125m, the same amount as Liverpool paid for Isak.

It’s a huge fee, and one that sets a massive precedent as well.
