Manchester City Taps into Elliot Anderson’s Enormous Potential

Headline: Elliot Anderson Emerges as Key Player in Manchester City’s Midfield Strategy

Elliot Anderson has made a strong start to his Manchester City career. The England international has firmly established himself as a key component of Manchester City’s midfield. His tireless work rate, ability to win duels, and quality in possession make Anderson the fulcrum of City’s midfield. However, as impressive as Anderson has been, there is a concerning thought for Manchester City’s rivals to consider: Anderson has barely scratched the surface of the midfielder he could become. That is an exciting prospect to consider as Enzo Maresca raised this possibility yesterday.

Enzo Maresca believes that Elliot Anderson has the ability to play in a more advanced midfield role.

Manchester City manager has used Elliot Anderson primarily as a number six in midfield this season. The endless energy that Anderson exhibits makes him a quality number six. Coupled with his skill in possession and strengths in duels, Anderson is the player for City to build their midfield around. Speaking yesterday, ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig, Enzo Maresca explained that Anderson has the capability to perform as a number eight in midfield. Maresca believes that Anderson possesses the ability to arrive in the box and contribute more goals to his game. He stated: “I think in this moment he is playing in the position which is best for him. That is a holding midfielder like a six.“

“No doubt in the future he can be also a number eight and arrive in the box. He has a good pass and also I think he can score some more goals.”

“In this moment I’m trying to know all of them in the right way. It’s just been four months so I need to know them better and they need to know me better. It’s on both sides. But for sure he can be a number eight that arrives inside the box.“

Once Elliot Anderson adds more goals and assists to his game he will be the complete midfield weapon for Manchester City.

It hasn’t taken long for Elliot Anderson to demonstrate why Manchester City were eager to secure his services from Nottingham Forest. Anderson has emerged as one of Manchester City’s standout players alongside Erling Haaland for the 2026-27 season. His ability to rise above the expectations associated with the hefty transfer fee is commendable. At just 23 years old, Anderson shows promising potential for further growth as a player.

Elliot Anderson has the capability to enhance his contributions in terms of goals and assists. His movements on the field often resemble those of Kevin De Bruyne. While Anderson may never replicate De Bruyne’s unique style, aspects of his passing game reflect similar traits. As time goes on, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Anderson become a regular provider of assists for Manchester City.

Additionally, Anderson has the potential to score goals from his midfield position. As he develops and plays alongside Ayyoub Bouaddi more frequently, there’s a strong possibility that Anderson can mirror Rodri’s ability to score while fulfilling a number six role.

As proficient as Elliot Anderson already is, he has only begun to tap into his full potential. Manchester City already possess a dynamic force in Anderson’s midfield. As he continues to develop and consistently adds goals and assists to his game, he will become a challenging adversary for Manchester City’s opponents to contend with.
