Headline: Liverpool Faces Midfield Changes Following Curtis Jones’ Transfer to Inter Milan

Liverpool’s midfield is experiencing another transformation with the transfer of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan. The 25-year-old midfielder has moved to the Italian champions for a fee of £30 million, and there are indications that more departures from the midfield may follow.

Stefan Bajcetic is rumored to be on the verge of reaching a deal to rejoin Celta Vigo, while James McConnell may also be sent out on loan before the transfer window closes. This creates a potential challenge for manager Andoni Iraola, who may struggle to cope with further key exits from the midfield. Additionally, sporting director Richard Hughes could feel the pressure if Manchester City finalize their interest in Alexis Mac Allister.

Man City Considering Mac Allister Deal

According to BBC Sport, Enzo Maresca, the new manager at Manchester City, is keen on signing the 27-year-old Argentine playmaker amid significant changes at the Etihad Stadium this summer. Reports indicate that City is pursuing several incoming transfers, including Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, along with Liverpool’s Mac Allister.

Manchester City has seen notable departures already this summer, with Rodri transferring to Barcelona, Bernardo Silva moving to Real Madrid, and Tijjani Reijnders completing a deal with Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia. Although Elliot Anderson has joined the club at a high cost, City still seeks more midfielders ready for Premier League action, making Mac Allister a fitting candidate.

Liverpool remains uncertain about the future of their No. 10, whose contract extends until 2028. Currently, there are no discussions regarding a new deal, and if negotiations do not progress, the club may have no choice but to sell.

Mac Allister Could Get Squeezed Out Under Iraola

Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 for £35 million, has enjoyed a successful tenure with the club, which included winning the Premier League title. Should the Reds decide to sell, they would likely expect around double the original fee.

This season, it appears that Florian Wirtz is poised to take on a central role in the team, limiting available midfield positions to just two. With Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch also recently signing new deals at significant expense, it is likely they will be in starting roles. Consequently, Mac Allister could find himself sidelined in favor of Szoboszlai and Wirtz, making a lucrative bid—even from a rival Premier League club—potentially welcome news within Liverpool’s decision-making circles at the AXA Training Centre.

Liverpool‘s midfield is set for a further shakeup following the departure of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan.

The 25-year-old joins the Italian champions for £30m – and there are indications that the midfield outgoings won’t end there.

Stefan Bajcetic is expected to reach a deal to rejoin Celta Vigo while James McConnell could end up leaving on loan before the window slams shut.

You would imagine that Andoni Iraola can ill-afford any more headline departures from his midfield. But sporting director Richard Hughes could come under pressure if Manchester City firm up their interest in Alexis Mac Allister.

Man City considering Mac Allister deal

BBC Sport is reporting that the 27-year-old Argentina playmaker is wanted by new City boss Enzo Maresca amid a summer of big changes at the Etihad Stadium.

“There will be incomings, with City seemingly closing in on the signing of Lille’s Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and holding an interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as well as Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister,” the report reads.

Man City hold summer midfielder clearout

Rodri has left for Barcelona, Bernardo Silva has joined Real Madrid and Tijjani Reijnders has concluded a deal with Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.

Although Elliot Anderson has been signed at considerable expense City still need more Premier League-ready midfielders and Mac Allister fits the bill.

Liverpool are currently unsure what to do over the No10 – whose contract expires in 2028. There are no talks pencilled in and if no deal is signed then there will be little option other than to consider a sale.

Mac Allister could get squeezed out under Iraola

Mac Allister has been at Anfield since 2023 – joining from Brighton for £35m. Following a successful spell on Merseyside – including the Premier League title – Liverpool will be expecting to bank around double that in the event of a sale.

This season it would appear that Florian Wirtz is set to play a central role – reducing the number of available midfield slots to two.

Considering Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have each inked fresh deals at considerable cost it can be reasonably assumed that they will be starting.

Mac Allister could therefore be squeezed out of the lineup in favour of that duo and Wirtz further forward. Therefore an attractive bid – even from a Premier League rival – could well be a welcome development inside the corridors of power at the AXA Training Centre.
