Newcastle United Sign Scotland Forward Kathleen McGovern
Newcastle United have officially signed Scotland international forward Kathleen McGovern. The Magpies confirmed the move in a press release issued to WSL Full-Time this morning.
The 24-year-old attacker joins Newcastle United on a free transfer following her departure from Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) club Hibernian. During her two seasons in Leith, McGovern made 65 appearances across all competitions and scored 51 goals. She also helped the club secure the SWPL title during the 2024/2025 campaign.
McGovern’s career history includes spells with Celtic, Hamilton Academical, SC Sand, and Hearts.
On the international stage, McGovern has represented Scotland 14 times, contributing 10 goals for her country.
Discussing her move to Newcastle United, McGovern said, “I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. I know how big the club is and I couldn’t wait to be part of it, I knew this was the next step for me.”
“I want to help the club to achieve promotion. I’m a winner, I want to score goals and that’s what I’m here to do.”
McGovern marks Newcastle United’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The club plans to add more new players to the squad as they look to build on last season’s mid-table finish.
