Niclas Füllkrug Dodges Question on German National Team After 1-0 Loss

Headline: Werder Bremen’s Unbeaten Run Ends with Narrow Loss to VfB Stuttgart

Werder Bremen faced disappointment as they were unable to extend their unbeaten streak to eight matches, suffering a 1-0 defeat against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. Despite attempting 23 shots and generating an xGoals value of 1.40, the team failed to find the back of the net for the first time this season in the Bundesliga.

During significant portions of the match, Niclas Füllkrug expressed optimism, stating, “I had the feeling that if we’d scored that one goal, we could even win the game.” With nine goals this season, the 33-year-old currently leads the league in scoring, earning a return to the German national team after more than a year away. However, when asked about his national team call-up, Bremen’s No. 10 avoided the topic.

“I’m not going to do that after a 1-0 loss,” he said. “Please, a little respect. We just lost a game. That’s not even on my mind right now.” He further brushed off questions regarding the national team, indicating, “I’m not thinking about that right now, and it doesn’t interest me at the moment.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but we just lost 1-0 against Stuttgart, even though we played well. I’m certainly not thinking about what’s next week, it doesn’t interest me right now.”
