Headline: Jack Leonard and Franksy Share Their Football Support Journeys Ahead of Upcoming Clash
In a conversation about their passion for football, artists Jack Leonard of the electronic duo cheapcuts and vocalist/DJ Franksy discuss their loyalty to Manchester United and Chelsea, respectively.
Jack recalls his journey as a Manchester United supporter, beginning in August 1996 when David Beckham scored a memorable goal against Wimbledon. Hailing from Huddersfield, he emphasizes the impact of that moment on his childhood. “I feel like you’ve got a window when to find your team; I was nine when I settled on United,” he explains, adding a nostalgic twist about the gravity of his choice, saying, “thank god I settled on United over Huddersfield.”
Franksy recounts a different experience, sharing that his journey with Chelsea began in 2002 during an away match at Anfield. He reflects on the cultural atmosphere at the time, noting, “That was back when the Scousers still wore Lacoste tracksuits, it was a different world back then.”
When reminiscing about their best childhood memories connected to football, Jack highlights watching the thrilling Champions League Final in 1999 with his brother. He recalls the chaos that ensued during Solskjær’s winning goal, leading to a humorous mishap involving their mother’s vase. In contrast, Franksy admits that he didn’t actively support Chelsea as a child and instead recalls attending a rave at Stamford Bridge in 1997.
As for the current season, Jack expresses his aspirations for United, stating that winning the Champions League is crucial. Despite the challenges, he believes the team possesses the required mentality to succeed. Franksy’s expectations for Chelsea are more grounded, hoping for a top-four finish and an FA Cup victory after eight years without a win.
When discussing potential managerial changes, Jack remains optimistic about Michael Carrick’s tenure, while reflecting on the difficulties in finding a suitable replacement. “We’ve run out of managers!” he laments, echoing the frustrations of many supporters regarding club ownership.
Franksy shares his thoughts on Xabi Alonso’s managerial prowess, suggesting that great players do not always make great managers, yet he emphasizes the need for stability within the club’s leadership.
Looking forward to their teams’ impending match, Jack predicts a narrow victory for United, stating, “I reckon United might edge it 1-0.” Franksy, on the other hand, confidently hopes for a Chelsea triumph.
