African Football Flourishes at 2026 World Cup, Says Senegal’s Coach

Senegalese head coach Pape Thiaw has expressed optimism about the progress of African football following impressive results in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the tournament has seen remarkable achievements from African teams.

Of the ten African squads that began the tournament, nine have successfully advanced to the round of 32, highlighting the continent’s growing presence on the world stage. Thiaw praised the performances of the teams, asserting that they have demonstrated the ability to capitalize on their opportunities.

“Africa has shown that when opportunities arise, it knows how to seize them. We have nothing to envy anyone. African teams are performing very well, with coaches from the continent,” he stated. Thiaw specifically acknowledged the Democratic Republic of Congo for their qualification, emphasizing the collective success of African nations.

In total, Senegal, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Cape Verde, Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, and DR Congo will compete in the round of 32 at this year’s World Cup, marking a significant achievement for African football.
