Paredes Involved in Post-Match Altercation Following Argentina’s World Cup Defeat
Leandro Paredes became embroiled in a controversy after Argentina’s World Cup final loss to Spain, engaging in a touchline brawl. Footage that circulated rapidly on social media captured Paredes grabbing Eric Garcia by the neck and then throwing Gavi to the ground when the Barcelona player intervened to defend his teammate.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Paredes, already a losing finalist, received a red card after the final whistle, prompting intervention from Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni and assistant Walter Samuel to defuse the situation.

Gavi reveals what set Paredes off in World Cup final brawl
Gavi later disclosed the trigger behind Paredes’ outburst. “I simply asked him: ‘Didn’t Infantino answer your calls this time?’” the 21-year-old told Spanish media.
“The moment I said it, he completely lost his head. He didn’t even let me finish. What did I want to tell him? That football has finally beaten corruption.”
The confrontation appeared to follow an earlier incident involving Nahuel Molina, who reportedly threw a punch at Rodri as the Spain captain walked by, contributing to the heated atmosphere following Spain’s victory.
