Mourinho Eyes Tottenham Defender Porro for Real Madrid Amid Right-Back Struggles
Real Madrid is reportedly considering Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro as a solution to their ongoing issues at right-back, according to Cadena SER. Manager Jose Mourinho is particularly open to acquiring the Spain international, who also attracts interest from Barcelona, igniting a potential transfer duel between the two Spanish clubs.
Despite significant investments made to bolster the right-back position over recent transfer windows, Real Madrid continues to face challenges. Trent Alexander-Arnold, signed from Liverpool in 2025, and Denzel Dumfries, brought in after Dani Carvajal’s exit last summer, have not cemented their status as first-choice defenders. Recently, Federico Valverde stepped in as right-back during the latest El Clasico.
Trent’s struggles to secure his place in the lineup have led to speculation regarding a possible return to Liverpool, who are reportedly exploring the option of bringing him back on loan in January.
With these developments, Porro has emerged as a possible target for Madrid. Mourinho may prefer to sign the Tottenham defender over retaining Trent in the current setup. Porro’s familiarity with Spanish football and his consistent performance at Tottenham, coupled with his international experience, make him a compelling candidate for Real Madrid as they seek stability on the right flank.
Additionally, Barcelona has entered the fray, showing interest in Porro as well. The Catalan club has reportedly made contact with his representatives to discuss a potential transfer, whether in January or next summer.
Porro’s standout performances in the recent World Cup alongside Lamine Yamal have reportedly increased Barcelona’s motivation to secure his services. Moreover, the defender is eager to return to La Liga, concerned that Tottenham’s current struggles might impact his national team prospects.
While Mourinho considers making a move for Porro, the potential signing may depend on Trent’s decision regarding his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. Should the Englishman choose to remain and compete for his position, there may be no room for Porro in the squad.
