Headline: Real Madrid’s Defence Shows Promise as Mourinho Backs Current Players
Real Madrid’s central defence has faced challenges in recent seasons, primarily due to a series of injuries that have frequently left the squad under-resourced. Following the latest international break, concerns rose when Dean Huijsen and Antonio Rudiger appeared to be the only fit centre-backs, reigniting discussions about the potential for new defensive signings.
The central defence has consistently been a focus for Real Madrid during recent transfer windows. Although Ibrahima Konate joined the squad, many continue to believe a new signing, like Nico Schlotterbeck or Alessandro Bastoni, is necessary.
Now, according to Defensa Central, manager Jose Mourinho expressed confidence in the defensive options currently at hand and sees no need to pursue new arrivals in this area. As a result, both Bastoni and Schlotterbeck have been ruled out as potential additions.
Looking ahead to the winter transfer market, Real Madrid plans to forgo new defensive signings. There is an air of optimism regarding the defensive lineup, especially with the anticipated return of Eder Militao from injury and the solid performances of Rudiger, Konate, and Huijsen.
At this stage, Konate and Huijsen appear to be the primary starting duo, with Rudiger available as an effective backup. Militao is expected to gradually regain his prominence, while Asencio will also re-enter the team’s dynamics soon.
As Mourinho’s outlook on Militao emerges, the Spanish outlet highlights that he harbors significant expectations for the Brazilian defender, who is often regarded as the team’s top player when fit. However, injuries have plagued Militao in recent years, limiting his time on the field due to consecutive long-term setbacks.
Now that he has returned to full fitness, the coaching staff will proceed cautiously with his reintegration into the lineup. The level of Militao’s performance during his comeback will play a vital role in determining whether Real Madrid’s management sees a need for summer recruitment in the defence position. He remains a key focus for the team’s future plans.
