Liverpool Seeks Right-Sided Wing Option Ahead of New Season

Liverpool remains in need of a right-sided wing option just a few weeks out from the start of the 2026/27 season.

To this point, it has served as a point of criticism for sporting director Richard Hughes, and with good reason. Liverpool knew well ahead of the window opening that Mohamed Salah would be leaving the club.

The Egyptian King reached an agreement to end his £400k per week deal one year early, and he is now expected to sign for Besiktas.

Liverpool attempted to secure Yan Diomande, but RB Leipzig rejected a bid of up to €100m from the Merseyside club.

Liverpool Attempts to Hijack Akliouche Deal

It appears that no contingency plan has been established following the missed opportunity for the 19-year-old Diomande.

Many players have been linked to Liverpool, with Yankuba Minteh, Matias Fernandez-Pardo, and Said El Mala confirmed as targets for the 2024/25 Premier League champions.

Additionally, Bradley Barcola remains of interest, but his price is currently around £128m, which is likely too high for Liverpool to proceed at this moment.

Intrigue grew on Wednesday when the name of Maghnes Akliouche was mentioned once again.

Maghnes Akliouche: A Good Match for Salah

Sky Sports reported that Liverpool is interested in acquiring the AS Monaco winger, who is a fitting stylistic match for Salah.

Interestingly, reports indicate that a deal to bring the France FIFA World Cup star to Paris Saint-Germain appeared to be very far advanced.

If Liverpool makes an approach at this late stage, it may indicate a lack of preparatory work for any other deals beyond Diomande.

Third Parties Attempt to Hijack Akliouche Deal

“Amid those ongoing negotiations, intermediaries have contacted Akliouche’s camp claiming to be working on Liverpool‘s behalf in an attempt to gauge whether the player’s stance had changed,” a report in TEAMtalk states.

The report adds that this approach has not gained attention, with PSG still confident in finalizing a deal for the left-footed 24-year-old.

    Maghnes Akliouche: Situation Summary

Maghnes Akliouche is a 24-year-old attacker from Monaco, known for being left-footed and technically skilled. He can play from the right wing or serve as a central creator.

He excels at receiving the ball in tight spaces, driving into dangerous areas, and linking up play rather than functioning purely as a touchline winger.

Monaco holds him under contract until June 2028, giving them a strong negotiating position and making them tough on bids. His market value is currently around €50m, indicating any potential transfer would require significant investment.

PSG is still viewed as the leading contender for Akliouche, with Liverpool exploring the terms of a deal. However, Monaco is unlikely to let him go at a low price; should he depart this summer, PSG remains the most plausible destination.
