Roma Defeats Sassuolo 3-0 in Serie A Showdown

Roma Dominates Sassuolo with 3-0 Victory

Roma easily defeated Sassuolo 3-0, handing coach Alberto Aquilani’s side a fifth consecutive loss. The Giallorossi were still reeling from their midweek collapse, where they squandered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Manchester United midweek. They faced new injuries to Pierluigi Gollini, Gianluca Mancini, and Devyne Rensch, with Paulo Dybala, Mile Svilar, and Lorenzo Pellegrini still unavailable. However, Manu Koné returned to action for the first time since a thigh injury on October 14.

Sassuolo, struggling under coach Alberto Aquilani, had lost four consecutive games and faced his former club for the first time, missing key players like Domenico Berardi, Cristian Volpato, Daniel Boloca, Ismael Koné, and Fedde Leysen. They opted for a 3-5-2 formation.

Roma’s third-choice goalkeeper, Devis Vasquez, made an important fingertip save to deflect a Nemanja Matic shot early in the game. In another close call, Duje Caleta-Car cleared a looping header from Leonardo Balerdi following a corner kick taken by Rodrigo Mora.

Mora’s deflected shot almost hit the bar before Roma found the net. Mario Hermoso ran forward to initiate a play with Donyell Malen, and after the exchange, Hermoso sent the ball into the roof of the net from 14 yards.

Malen contributed to the second goal, although his angled shot was heading off-target until it deflected off Jay Idzes and Sebastian Walukiewicz, wrong-footing the goalkeeper. Leonardo Balerdi and Matias Soulé both tested the Sassuolo defense shortly after the second goal, but a missed chance could have been crucial as Roma squandered a clear opportunity immediately after the break.

Soulé broke free from the offside trap and weaved around Muric, but instead of scoring into the empty net, he attempted to pass to Malen, who was unprepared for the pass.

Malen did later test Muric after a pass from Hermoso. Roma’s third goal finally came as Mora finished a one-two with Malen, sending the ball through Caleta-Car’s legs and into the bottom corner with his right foot.

Despite additional opportunities, Malen struggled to convert after dribbling past Muric, and Niccolò Pisilli’s close attempt also tested the goalkeeper, meaning Roma could have added more to their tally.
