Donald Trump Booed as He Joins Spain in World Cup Trophy Celebration

Donald Trump faced loud boos after he joined captain Rodri on the podium, as Spain celebrated winning the World Cup 2026 trophy after defeating Argentina 1-0 following extra time in the final.

The US president attended the blockbuster match at MetLife Stadium, sitting next to Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Trump was visible behind bullet-proof glass, with First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump accompanying him for the game.

Trump then participated in the Fifa ceremony, similar to his involvement last year when he joined Reece James during Chelsea’s Fifa Club World Cup win in the same stadium over Paris Saint-Germain, joining Reece James in trophy celebrations.

After presenting the trophy to Spain, he moved close to the front for the initial lift, ensuring he would be in the photo, before Infantino subtly tried to guide him away from the scene.

The reaction to the president in New Jersey was audibly negative, with boos echoing around the stadium.

Trump entered the pitch alongside Infantino to loud jeers and whistles before shaking hands with several guests, including Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the Governor of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and chairman of Newcastle. The ambient noise in the stadium measured around 78 decibels, but the booing raised this to 84.

During the presentation, Trump distributed medals to officials and players.

Spain won 1-0 after extra time, with Ferran Torres scoring in the 106th minute, capitalizing on Nico Williams’ knock-down in a tightly contested match. Argentina struggled after Enzo Fernandez received a red card and faced further discipline when Leandro Paredes was sent off at full-time for grabbing Eric Garcia’s throat, amid reports of punches being thrown.
