Argentina Falls to Spain in World Cup Final as Tensions Erupt
Argentina’s dream of a fourth World Cup title came crashing down this Sunday (19). In addition to winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup title with a 1-0 victory in extra time, Spain ran rings around the “hermanos” the entire match.
Statistics such as possession, touches on the ball, and shots on goal confirm La Furia’s total superiority on the field.
But things somehow got even uglier and more embarrassing for Argentina right after the final whistle.
That’s because Leandro Paredes, the 32-year-old Boca Juniors defensive midfielder, cowardly attacked center-back Eric Garcia (25) and midfielder Gavi (21), both of Barcelona.
Paredes’ disgraceful behavior only reinforces the stigma many Argentinians have, at least in Brazil, of not knowing how to lose.
