Headline: Arsenal CEO Addresses Future of Young Talents Amid Transfer Speculation
Arsenal’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Garlick, has clarified that the club is not currently looking to sell its young homegrown talents, including Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri. However, he stated that the Premier League champions would “consider” the right opportunities that benefit both the players and the club.
Both Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri, who are both 19 years old, have attracted interest from rival Premier League clubs for potential summer transfers. Their homegrown status, achieved through their development within Arsenal’s youth system, would enable the club to register any sale as pure profit, which would assist in balancing the financials in light of the Premier League’s new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) regulations.
These new rules permit clubs to allocate 85% of their revenue towards fees, wages, and contracts, but this figure drops to 70% for clubs participating in European competitions. Garlick emphasized that all clubs must now adopt a player-trading model to maintain financial balance.
In a conversation with the BBC’s sports editor Dan Roan, Garlick acknowledged the ongoing speculation surrounding players and expressed that while rival interest cannot be controlled, both players have been performing well. “Myles has had a fantastic end to last season and has started this one really well – we’re very, very happy with him,” he said. “Ethan has had a great pre-season as well, and I think it’s just a case of looking at what opportunities there are that will help both of those in terms of their career moving forward. We are not actively looking at selling those homegrown players, but if the right opportunity came up – right for them and the club – we’d obviously consider that.”
Additionally, Garlick sought to reassure fans regarding the contract situation of manager Mikel Arteta, who is entering the final year of his current agreement. “Mikel wants to be at Arsenal, we want Mikel at Arsenal,” Garlick noted. “It’s only a matter of time before we put that into a new contract. Everyone is very confident and calm. We’re just navigating a transfer window, and I’m sure Mikel’s contract will be resolved very shortly.”

Their ‘homegrown’ status having progressed through the ranks at Arsenal means any sale would allow the club to book pure profit in its accounts, helping balance the financials in a year when the Premier League moves to a new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rule.

“There’s been a lot of speculation around players,” said Garlick.
