Headline: Liverpool’s Calvin Ramsay Joins St Mirren on Loan as Transfer Window Heats Up

Liverpool has confirmed the loan departure of Calvin Ramsay to St Mirren for the 2026/27 season, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. With the transfer window closing in under two weeks, the club faces challenges in balancing their squad amid significant changes.

Initially, the thought of losing Mohamed Salah without an adequate replacement before August 20 seemed far-fetched, yet the reality is setting in. Liverpool’s management has a substantial amount of work to do, balancing player sales and acquisitions while addressing the need for certain players, who performed well during pre-season, to secure loan opportunities for regular playtime.

Ramsay, who joined Liverpool in 2022, has struggled with injuries that hindered his progress, leaving him without a full season of action since his arrival. His sole complete season occurred at Aberdeen in 2021/22, which led to his transfer to Liverpool. Despite the team’s need for right-back support last season, Ramsay did not see Premier League action, even after a commendable performance in the Carabao Cup.

Now, his loan move to St Mirren marks a critical point in his career. The arrangement is a one-year deal that also signals the conclusion of his current contract at Liverpool, pending any renewal. Fans and analysts alike are hopeful that Ramsay will find the opportunity he needs in Scotland, paving the way for a successful future with a solid club contract next summer.

That’s a deal done. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed it and Liverpool have another one out the door.

There are under two weeks to go in the transfer window and everyone would agree that Liverpool have a lot of work to do. Arguably, they have too much work to do at a time when they desperately need to balance the squad.

The idea of losing Mohamed Salah and not properly replacing him by August 20th would have sounded insane at the start of the window. Yet here we are.

Liverpool have more than that to do, though. They’ve got sales to get through as well as players to sign, while certain stars who featured in pre-season need loan moves for the proper campaign.

One of those is Calvin Ramsay. Ramsay joined Liverpool back in 2022 but his time at the club was immediately hampered by injuries. It’s been an incredibly difficult time for him, truth be told, and hasn’t had a full season of football since.

In fact, Ramsay’s sole full season came for Aberdeen in 2021/22, which earned him his move to Anfield. He’s been so out of favour that even last term, with Liverpool down to zero right-backs, Arne Slot still wouldn’t give him a Premier League game – despite a good outing in the Carabao Cup.

And now it seems that Ramsay’s time at the club may be over. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the surprise deal that sees him join St Mirren on loan for the 2026/27 season.

It’s a one-year loan deal but, importantly, that would bring Ramsay to the end of his Liverpool contract. It’s not reported that he’s signed a new one, so this really will be it.

Good luck to him, of course. Ramsay fully deserves his shot at regular football and hopefully he can put in a solid campaign back in Scotland, earning him a contract with a good club next summer.

We’ll cross our fingers for him – it’s about time his luck turned.
