Oxford United’s Coach Hails Team’s Finest Performance Against Stockport County
Oxford United’s head coach Aaron Ramsey expressed his pride in his team’s recent performance, describing the victory over Stockport County as the moment he is “most proud” of during his tenure at the club. The U’s secured a narrow win at the Kassam Stadium, with Mark Harris scoring the decisive goal from a low cross by Siriki Dembele in the first half.
The match saw Oxford clinch their sixth victory out of 11 this season and maintain a strong league record, suffering only one loss. This win elevates them to third place in the League One standings.
Ramsey remarked, “This performance is definitely the one that has made me the most proud,” during an interview with BBC Radio Oxford. He commended his players for their strong defensive work and their courage in possession, which allowed them to effectively navigate through opposing teams.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “Everybody played their part and we’re going to need them all throughout the whole season.” Since their sole league defeat against Huddersfield, Oxford has recorded five wins and three draws, remaining undefeated at home across all competitions.
The team has played fewer matches than others in the league due to postponements from the previous international break—a situation that may recur later this month due to upcoming call-ups for Oxford players. Ramsey acknowledged the impacts of these disruptions, saying, “It’s taken a while to make up some ground because of the games we have had postponed.”
The coach highlighted the opportunity presented by the recent match, noting, “It was nice to play one of those games where we had the chance to jump up a few places and it was important to take full advantage of that.” He praised the execution of the game plan by his players and acknowledged the support of the fans for contributing to the team’s success.
As the team looks ahead, Oxford United will travel to face Barnsley on Saturday, followed by a midweek clash against rivals Reading at the Kassam Stadium.
