Juventus Struggles with Consistency Following 2-2 Draw Against Fiorentina
Luciano Spalletti expressed concern over Juventus’ lack of consistency and dwindling confidence following a 2-2 draw with Fiorentina. The Juventus manager noted that the team often “wallowed in doubt.”
In a match held in Florence, Juventus had to rally twice to secure a draw. They quickly fell behind to a Mateo Pellegrino header just four minutes into the game. Though Nick Woltemade scored his first Serie A goal to level the match, Fiorentina’s Alieu Njie soon put his team back in front.
Ultimately, Gleison Bremer equalized for Juventus, heading in from a Douglas Luiz corner. Both teams had late chances to complain about decisions made by the referee.

Spalletti commented on the performance, indicating that at times the team “drowns in a glass of water” and loses confidence in their play. He acknowledged that while they responded well after conceding early, they lacked consistency as a group and as individuals. “We do really well for 10 minutes, then are lacking in something else the next,” Spalletti said.

Spalletti noted that the mentality of the team at times leads to passivity, where they hesitate to take action. He emphasized that seizing opportunities can alleviate doubts and help regain control of the game. “In some moments we decided not to make decisions, we just stay there and accept the situation,” he admitted.

Additionally, Spalletti implemented a new attacking strategy, employing Jeremie Boga and Randal Kolo Muani on the wings, with Woltemade in the center. He explained the decision, noting Fiorentina’s aggressive play and the need for a more direct approach, despite Woltemade’s challenges with holding up the ball.
The evening also saw disallowed goals and denied penalty appeals for Juventus, raising further questions about officiating. Spalletti responded to a question about a potential handling incident by Joao Mario with a light-hearted remark, revealing his views on the incident replay.
As a result of this match, Juventus heads into the international break sitting in seventh place, now six points behind AC Milan and the Champions League spots. The team’s 18 points after 11 games mark their worst start to a Serie A season since a mere 15 points in the 2021/22 season under Max Allegri.
