Former Footballer Moritz Leitner Pursues Professional Career in Padel Sport
Moritz Leitner has not participated in professional football for four years. After concluding his time with FC Zurich, the midfielder retired at the young age of 29. However, Leitner has not taken a break; instead, he has dedicated himself fully to the sport of padel.
Now at 33 years old, Leitner has embraced padel and seems to be thriving in the sport, currently holding the 32nd position in Germany’s padel rankings. He recently shared his aspirations with ‘Sport Bild,’ stating, “I want to turn professional in padel, too.”
His strong work ethic is expected to aid him in achieving this goal. Leitner expressed his passion for the sport, saying, “I don’t think there’s a more padel-mad monkey out there than me—with my attitude and my passion for the sport. Of course, I come from football and don’t have the tennis background that most other players have. But I absolutely love it and give a thousand percent every day.”
Leitner’s familiarity with the demands of competitive sport could be advantageous. In his youth, he celebrated victories in both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund in 2012. The following year, he was part of the team that reached the Champions League final under Jürgen Klopp.
As he embarks on this new athletic journey, many will be watching to see if Leitner can replicate his past success in the world of padel.
