However, the match was not without its share of controversy, particularly involving Valencia defender Pablo Maffeo.
Maffeo, known for his previous confrontations with Los Blancos, once again drew attention to himself.
Marcelo Takes Aim at Maffeo
In a playful jab, former Real Madrid star Marcelo took to social media to comment on Maffeo’s antics.
“Maffeo really has it in for MADRID… my goodness,” Marcelo wrote on X, mockingly referring to him as ‘Masfeo’.
“And a goal,” the Brazilian remarked, celebrating Madrid’s first-half breakthrough.
This incident took place after Maffeo was penalized for a foul on Kylian Mbappe just outside Valencia’s penalty area.

Maffeo received a yellow card for the foul, which led to a free-kick taken by Mbappe that struck the wall. Fede Valverde then capitalized on the rebound, scoring Real Madrid’s opening goal.
Frustrated by the referee’s decision, Maffeo expressed his dissatisfaction during a half-time interview with DAZN.
“I don’t feel like doing this interview at all. It’s rubbish,” he complained, later asserting that the foul that resulted in Madrid’s first goal should not have been given.
Maffeo’s History with Real Madrid
Maffeo’s contentious history with Real Madrid has been evident since his tenure at Mallorca.

During that time, he engaged in numerous heated exchanges with Vinicius Jr., marked by controversial challenges and gestures directed at the Brazilian player.

Although Maffeo previously stated that he had resolved conflicts with Real Madrid, it appears he has found another cause for disagreement.
Ultimately, Mourinho’s team celebrated a well-earned victory, securing all three points on Saturday.
As Maffeo prepares for a return to the Santiago Bernabeu, he is likely to face a challenging reception, making future encounters between him and Real Madrid highly anticipated.
