Headline: Milan Clubs Unveil New Stadium Plans Amid Protests and Absences
Milan’s storied football scene took a significant step today as officials from AC Milan and Inter Milan presented their plans for a new stadium, although the press conference experienced a rocky beginning due to the absence of Milan’s directors and protests from Inter fans.
Following more than a decade of legal disputes, the two clubs finally disclosed their design for the new facility, located in the San Siro area. The press conference took place at Milan’s Sforzesco Castle, but attendees faced a notable disruption. Inter fans rallied outside the venue to voice their discontent over the impending demolition of the historic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, displaying banners with messages such as, “Lights at San Siro, you will never switch them off.”
While the specifics of the stadium’s images are under embargo until later this evening, the project has triggered a variety of reactions from the community. The new stadium is set to rise in what is currently the car park of the Stadio Meazza, ensuring that the San Siro area will host a venue that continues the legacy of football in the city.
Notably, Milan’s directors missed the press conference due to a scheduling conflict with a shareholders’ meeting. They sent representatives Chief Revenue Officer Maikel Oettle and Chief Brand Officer Francesca Montini in their place. Inter was represented by President Beppe Marotta and other figures from club owners Oaktree.
The clubs took a fresh approach to this project, as they had to discard the initial design introduced over a decade ago, opting instead for a new design led by renowned architect Norman Foster. It is reported that the stadium will accommodate approximately 71,500 seats, with an expected total investment of €2 billion to see the project through to completion.
