Corinthians Snap 10-Game Winless Streak, Alleviating Relegation Concerns

Corinthians Secures Much-Needed Victory Over Mirassol in Brasileirão Clash

At the Neo Química Arena, Corinthians claimed a 2-0 victory against Mirassol on Friday (30), marking a significant moment in Matchday 33 of the 2026 Brasileirão. This win comes as a relief for Timão, who had endured a challenging 10-match winless stretch since their last league victory on August 9 against RB Bragantino.

The match also represented a turning point for the team under the guidance of Dutch coach Clarence Seedorf, who previously saw his squad draw 1-1 with Vitória and suffer a 3-2 defeat to Vasco.

With strong backing from their loyal fans, Corinthians took charge of the game from the outset. However, the mental toll of their prolonged winless run hindered their performance, particularly in the attacking phase. The situation changed dramatically in the 23rd minute when a VAR review led to the sending off of Bruno Santos, giving Corinthians an advantage.

Following the red card, Timão increased their attacking pressure but went into halftime without a goal. Mirassol’s players and coaching staff expressed their dissatisfaction with the officiating during this period.

In the second half, Corinthians’ dominance resulted in goals. Matheus Bidu, playing as a left winger in Seedorf’s formation, capitalized on a cross from Matheuzinho to score in the 58th minute. Later, in the 80th minute, Kaio César further secured the victory with a well-placed left-footed shot from the edge of the box, which found the back of the net.

This victory elevated Corinthians to 36 points, placing them in 17th position, the highest within the relegation zone, while Internacional slipped to third from bottom with 35 points. Mirassol remains just outside the relegation zone with 37 points.

With five rounds left, several clubs still face relegation threats, including Grêmio (37 points), Vitória (38 points), Vasco (38 points), Coritiba (39 points), and Botafogo (39 points).

In upcoming fixtures, Coxa and Leão da Barra will meet on Saturday (31) to conclude Matchday 33. Additionally, Vasco and Chapecoense will hold a postponed Matchday 21 match on November 14 at Arena Condá. Mirassol will resume play next Tuesday (3) against Chapecoense, while Timão prepares to face rival São Paulo in a derby on Wednesday (4).
