Headline: Bolton Wanderers Boss Confident Despite Recent Struggles in Championship
Bolton Wanderers head coach Steven Schumacher remains optimistic about his team’s performance in the Championship, despite a string of disappointing results. The team started the season strong, boasting an impressive 3-1 victory over Wolves, marking their third win in four matches and propelling them to 14th place in the standings.
However, since that victory, Bolton has faced difficulties, failing to secure a win in their last three matches and conceding a total of eight goals, including a distressing five in a home defeat to Middlesbrough.
“I don’t think we’re surprised by the level. It’s going to be difficult,” Schumacher told BBC Radio Manchester. He expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “But I think what I’ve been most impressed with – there’s only one game out of the 13 that we’ve played in the league that we can honestly come off the pitch and say, ‘you know what, they were miles better than us.'”
Schumacher highlighted the match against Queens Park Rangers, where he felt his team performed admirably to secure a point, indicating that they have consistently created opportunities to win games rather than merely collecting points.
In their latest encounter, Bolton allowed a 2-1 lead to slip away, ultimately suffering a 3-2 loss at home to Bristol City. This defeat saw them drop to 19th in the league standings, but Schumacher believes that the team’s results do not accurately reflect their potential.
“I know that we haven’t got all of the wins or we’ve been punished sometimes and we’ve had points in the bag and it’s gone in the last minute like Sheffield United and on Saturday, but that’s what this league can do to you,” he remarked. He emphasized the unforgiving nature of the Championship and urged his players to move forward quickly, noting, “before you know it there’s another game and you can’t dwell on it for too long.”
Schumacher encouraged his players to stay committed and maintain their belief, emphasizing, “you’re just doing loads of things well and for large periods of that game on Saturday we looked like the team that have been at this level for years.”
