Concern Grows as Arsenal Loanee Falls to Bench Role

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri Limited to Substitute Appearances at Borussia Dortmund

Ethan Nwaneri, the young midfielder on loan from Arsenal, has seen a reduction in his playing time at Borussia Dortmund over the past two weeks, primarily appearing from the bench.

After starting regularly in his early matches, Nwaneri last took to the field as a starter on October 17th. Since then, he has primarily been utilized in substitute roles.

In his recent outings, Nwaneri entered in stoppage time for the Champions League clash against Sabah FK, played 22 minutes during the second half of the 1-0 victory over Frankfurt, and contributed for 19 minutes in the German Cup win over Werder Bremen. However, he did not make an appearance in the match against Bayern Munich.

Despite limited time on the field, Nwaneri has accumulated more playing minutes at Dortmund than during his entire loan spell at Olympique Marseille, needing just one more game to match his total appearances with the French side.

However, concerns have arisen regarding the downward trend in his involvement. Initially, he showcased the potential by playing around 60 minutes per match, but it now seems he’s struggling for game time.

Nwaneri is also yet to score his first goal, recently having a bicycle-kick effort ruled out due to a foul.

Dortmund will face Real Betis in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by a Bundesliga match against SV Elversberg on Saturday, just before the November international break.
