Preston North End Seeks to Regain Form Amidst Challenging Championship Campaign
Preston North End is determined to rebuild their momentum as they strive to climb the Championship standings, according to manager Graham Alexander. The team has experienced a challenging start to the season, managing only one victory in 90 minutes across all competitions and finding themselves six points below the safety line.
As they prepare to take on Sheffield United on Tuesday, Preston has collected only two points from a possible 24 since their last win. Alexander recognizes the team’s current lack of confidence but emphasizes the need for a positive mindset. “Confidence is low without a shadow of a doubt. But I think it’d be a strange thing if I said the players are really confident in everything because it’s a results-based business,” he commented during an interview with BBC Radio Lancashire.
He continued, “We want to win. The players train to win every single day. We’re not doing that consistently, but you can still make a choice to think differently and think positively.” Reflecting on their recent performance against West Brom, Alexander noted that it didn’t stem from a place of confidence, pointing out that the team approached the match carrying doubts from previous results.
“Bit by bit, inch by inch, you get that good feeling back, and that’s what we’re going to have to do again,” he added. The only win of the season for Preston came during a home match in a Lancashire derby against Blackburn. Alexander understands the significance of solid home performances at Deepdale, recalling conversations about the success of past teams at the club.
“That’s something that’s not been the case for a while, so hopefully the performance last Saturday was something we can build on if we want to be a successful team and a team that wins games. Deepdale is a place where we make it the bedrock of that sort of performance base,” he concluded.
