Kobbie Mainoo Calls on Man United to Support Under-Fire Boss Michael Carrick

Headline: Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo Calls for Unity Amidst Michael Carrick’s Pressure

Kobbie Mainoo has rallied his Manchester United teammates to support under-pressure manager Michael Carrick as they prepare to face Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. The midfielder’s appeal comes at a time when Carrick’s position faces significant scrutiny ahead of the Champions League clash.

United approaches the match amid a disheartening nine-match winless streak across all competitions, marking their worst run since 1988. The team’s current plight is underlined by a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday, which has left them hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone by only goal difference.

Previously, Carrick successfully led United into the Champions League last season during a brief and impressive term before securing the position permanently. Mainoo’s fortunes have dramatically improved under Carrick, as he had previously been sidelined by former manager Ruben Amorim.

“I’m very grateful to the boss for putting the trust in me as soon as he came in, and putting that belief in me,” the England international said. He praised Carrick for his guidance, noting his status as a former player who understands the club’s history and the dedication required to achieve victory.

Regarding Carrick’s public support, Mainoo acknowledged, “Yeah, of course, and I feel like our way to repay that is to also be behind the manager on the pitch and off it, and fight for us and fight for us as a team.” He also mentioned the need to meet fan expectations: “In these tough times you can’t expect the fans 100,000 percent of the time to be happy and cheering when we’re not putting out results. We owe it to them to put the results out there for them to cheer again.”

The upcoming match against Roma marks United’s fourth in this season’s Champions League, with the team having suffered two losses in their previous three games. Following this encounter, they will face a challenging Premier League match against Aston Villa, along with an international break set for November.

“Of course it’s been a tough season,” Mainoo reflected. “We’ve not had the results we’ve wanted, but you know we need to look forward now. There’s big, big games ahead and I feel like we’re one win away from changing that.”
