Watford Boss Expresses Concern During International Break

Headline: Watford Faces Pressure as Boss Alessio Dionisi’s Future Hangs in Balance

Watford’s head coach Alessio Dionisi needs to secure victories in the upcoming Championship matches to remain in his position, according to BBC Three Counties radio commentator Geoff Doyle. The Hornets recently blew a 2-0 lead against Norwich on Saturday, ultimately suffering a 3-2 defeat. This loss leaves the team only two points above the relegation zone as they prepare for Tuesday night’s home encounter with Lincoln City at 19:45 GMT.

“The form is significant. They’ve lost six of their past seven games and taken three points from a possible 21, which normally puts you in massive trouble if you’re a Watford head coach,” Doyle stated. He speculated on Dionisi’s job security, noting the timing of the Tuesday match may limit any immediate managerial changes.

Dionisi, appointed in June on a two-year deal, has become Watford’s 12th permanent head coach since the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. Doyle remarked, “After Lincoln they play Middlesbrough at home, then it’s the international break, and if you’re a Watford head coach who is struggling, an upcoming international break is a time to be very fearful.”

Unless Dionisi manages to win the next two fixtures, Doyle doubts he will survive in his role, pointing out that the current form is akin to relegation-level performance. “He didn’t help himself on Saturday but he was let down by his players big time, and probably by his recruitment team as well – everyone has to take accountability for this,” he added.
