Challinor: Wednesday Boasts an Amazing Squad

New Sheffield Wednesday Manager Dave Challinor Optimistic About Team’s Potential

Sheffield Wednesday’s newly appointed manager, Dave Challinor, expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, describing it as an “amazing squad.” The 51-year-old took over the role after Henrik Pedersen’s departure, signing a deal lasting three and a half years on Sunday.

Currently, Wednesday sits in ninth place in League One, having experienced a four-game winless streak.

In an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield, Challinor was questioned about his objectives for the season regarding promotion. He replied, “The aim is to win. The aim is to move forward.”

Challinor, formerly of Stockport County, acknowledged the challenges the team faces, particularly with injuries. “It’s an amazing squad. We’re feeling a little bit of pain at the moment with injuries,” he noted.

He pointed out that the squad has seen significant changes, with 17 or 18 new players joining over the summer. “You go through processes of how that works and comes together, and you throw in the adversity of not being able to name the same squad consecutively because of injuries and suspensions,” he explained.

He added, “We know we need our best players back and that will hopefully not be too far away.”

Sheffield Wednesday will compete against League Two’s Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup first round this Sunday, followed by a league match against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, November 14, which will be Challinor’s first in charge.
