Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini addressed journalists during the 2006 Stelle nello Sport Charity Event, sharing his thoughts on his career and the current state of football in Rome.

“For me, it’s a fantastic opportunity to return to Genoa and see so many friends again. This prestigious recognition is a source of great pride,” he expressed, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.com.

Gasperini noted that his tenure at Roma has been relatively brief, lasting a year and a half, but described it as a wonderful experience. “We hope to continue on this path. Of course, Rome has much bigger numbers: if you can do well in a city like Rome, the impact is even greater,” he stated.

Discussing Lazio’s recent form, Gasperini acknowledged the unexpected nature of their success but emphasized its positive implications for the city. “It’s certainly a surprise for everyone, but it’s also a source of value and recognition for the city, which is an extraordinary city with a great enthusiasm for football. Roma always has a full stadium; Lazio may have other problems, but in this city, football is experienced with incredible enthusiasm.”

He also reflected on Roma’s competitiveness, acknowledging recent growth. “We’ve been competitive for a few months now. We’ve been able to grow in Italy, and we got off to a good start last year too. Last year’s second half of the season was a good one, but this year it’s still early. Eleven games aren’t many, but they’re significant for the team’s performance. The environment gives us great fuel to do well.”
