Liverpool Reportedly Agree Deal to Sell Curtis Jones to Nottingham Forest
Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal to sell a first-team star. This one could now move quickly.
Reports in Italy suggest Liverpool have agreed a deal to sell Curtis Jones. The midfielder has one year remaining on his contract and expects to leave the club this summer.
Jones fell out of favour under head coach Arne Slot, seeing most of his recent playing time at right-back following an injury to Conor Bradley. The absence of discussions regarding a new contract fueled ongoing speculation about a potential summer departure.
Inter Milan previously attempted to sign the player last January. Liverpool rejected that offer, although reports at the time indicated the Reds considered the proposal.
The club might have accepted the deal had they not faced an injury crisis at that time. Now, however, the circumstances suggest a straightforward exit for Jones.
Notably, Corriere Dello Sport states that Inter will not secure his services. The Italian side engaged in lengthy negotiations with Liverpool, seeking a significant discount due to the player’s expiring contract.
That haggling appears to have proved costly. CDS reports that Nottingham Forest now seemingly hold an agreement with Liverpool to complete a transfer for the player.
Forest possess significant transfer funds and require a new centre-midfielder following the sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. The club views Jones as an immediate replacement who can operate in the middle of the pitch, despite his different playing style compared to Anderson.
Nottingham Forest will have no trouble meeting the asking price, while the homegrown status of Jones makes him a valuable investment. It is a departure that Liverpool may eventually regret.
