Having departed from Barcelona last summer to join AFC Ajax on loan, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is making a notable impact during training with his new teammates.

The experienced German international had fallen down the hierarchy at Barça under Hansi Flick and opted to leave in search of regular playing time.

Tolu Arokodare Impressed by Ter Stegen

Ajax striker Tolu Arokodare recently shared his thoughts on Ter Stegen in an interview with the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t SPORT), highlighting how impressed he is with Ter Stegen’s performances in his new surroundings.

“Ter Stegen drives me crazy during training. Sometimes it’s incredibly frustrating to see him keep saving so many shots. It makes you want to punch him!”

Arokodare’s light-hearted comment illustrates the significant impression Ter Stegen has already made at Ajax since his arrival in the Netherlands.

Since joining Ajax on loan, Ter Stegen has made 13 appearances across all competitions, managing to keep three clean sheets while conceding 19 goals.

A Chance to Revive His Career

The move to Ajax presents a fantastic opportunity for Ter Stegen to rejuvenate his career following a decline in his role at Barcelona.

The German international had previously slipped behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny in the lineup under Hansi Flick at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Earlier this year, the 34-year-old goalkeeper departed Barcelona on loan to Girona, but an injury limited his contributions at the Catalan side.

Now reunited with former Girona manager Michel at Ajax, Ter Stegen appears to be settling in well at the Dutch club.

A successful season could enhance Ter Stegen’s market value and increase his chances of securing a permanent transfer from Barcelona by the end of the season, possibly to Ajax or elsewhere.

He is still bound to the Blaugrana until the summer of 2028, and the club will be closely monitoring his performances to evaluate the possibility of a permanent departure in the summer.
