Amorim: ‘Milan Showed Fatigue from the Start, I’m Not Here to Defend Myself’

Milan Coach Acknowledges Team Fatigue After Loss to Bologna

Milan’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, expressed his disappointment following his team’s 4-2 defeat at home to Bologna, marking their first Serie A loss of the season. In a post-match interview, he noted that his players appeared “tired from minute one” but clarified that the injuries affecting the squad should not serve as an excuse.

The match unfolded dramatically, with Bologna initially securing the lead before Milan responded with two goals from Alphadjo Cisse before halftime. However, Bologna surged back in the second half, scoring three more goals to clinch the victory.

Amorim shared his thoughts with DAZN after the game, revealing his frustration with the team’s performance: “Many games, many players out. It was hard for us,” he stated. “I felt from the first minute that the team was a little bit tired and without much energy.”

Missing eight key players for the match, including regular starters Mario Gila, Samuel Chukwueze, and Adrien Rabiot, Milan faced challenges in their lineup. Regarding the upcoming derby against Inter next Saturday, Amorim remained uncertain about player availability, emphasizing the need to reassess their condition in the days leading up to the crucial match.

Amorim pointed out that while injuries played a role, the team’s struggle with consistency had different roots. “It’s not just that. I didn’t say we lost because of injuries. I said lack of energy because we can’t make the same rotation,” he responded when questioned about the factors contributing to the loss.

Emphasizing the importance of context in their struggles, Amorim said, “We must be ready for the derby; I’m just showing the facts.” On the team’s preparation for the upcoming match, he concluded, “We have the responsibility to fight to win. I believe in it, and when we have all the players, we’ll be ready to fight in every game. No excuses; we need to try to win the game.”
