Andoni Iraola confirms plans to keep Curtis Jones at Liverpool
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed his plan for the upcoming season. He wants one ‘great, great’ star at Anfield.
Andoni Iraola does not yet know what his squad will look like, and the Premier League season kicks off in a month. Liverpool has been slow to rebuild after losing a few key players, and it remains unclear who will stay with the club.
One player with an uncertain future is Curtis Jones. The local midfielder nearly joined Inter in January and has only one year remaining on his contract.
This situation has opened the door to a potential sale. Reports in Italy suggest ongoing talks between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest—possibly even an agreement—as well as interest from Inter. Previous reports indicated that Jones could be leaving the club for a cut-price fee.
Such a move would feel like a disaster. Jones is a local product and a major success story for the academy. Letting him go cheaply would be a poor decision, yet Liverpool has appeared to be heading in that direction.
However, Iraola may provide a solution. The new head coach has spoken positively about the midfielder, stating clearly that he wants him to remain at the club for the upcoming season.
“I will have the chance to speak with him today,” said Iraola, per the Liverpool Echo. “I rate Curtis very highly.
“For me he is a great, great player and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing.
“It’s very important that he’s Scouse, that he’s from here. I also like the personality.
“From the outside at least he looks like a player with good character and I hope we can keep him, not only for this year but for more time.”
It appears that Iraola is prepared to give him that opportunity, potentially resolving the current uncertainty surrounding the player’s future at Anfield.
