Barça made a strategic move by bringing Rodri from Manchester City, filling a crucial gap in their midfield lineup.
This decision has received notable support from Pau Torres, an Aston Villa star who knows Rodri well.
In comments to Diario AS, Torres commended Barcelona for signing his former Villarreal teammate ahead of Villa’s Champions League match against the Spanish giants.

“Not only because they have him in their team, but also because they took him away from Madrid,” he stated.
“I would sign him. He’s the best in the world in his position.”

Torres mentioned that he maintains a close relationship with Rodri, despite the different paths their careers have taken.
“He’s a very humble guy whom football hasn’t changed at all,” Torres commented, recounting how Rodri once opted to sleep on a mattress in a friend’s university accommodation instead of booking a luxury hotel.

The defender confirmed that he and Rodri communicated prior to their upcoming match, yet he noted, “During the match, there will be no friendship.”
Pau Torres Anticipates Future Ballon d’Or for Lamine Yamal
Torres also addressed the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Harry Kane of Bayern Munich took home the prestigious award.
When asked about his national team-mate’s omission, Torres expressed confidence in Lamine’s potential for the next few years.
“Kane’s numbers have been very good, but I wanted a Spaniard to win it, and I think he deserved it,” Torres remarked.

“If it wasn’t this year, it will be very soon because Lamine is very close. I’m sure he will maintain his level or improve it.”

As preparations continue for their match, Torres and Aston Villa must prepare to contend with Lamine Yamal at the Camp Nou.
Torres’ glowing assessment of the young Spanish talent highlights his high regard for Yamal, which adds to the pressure on Unai Emery and his squad.
At only 19 years of age, Lamine Yamal still has a promising career ahead. If he continues to evolve, he is likely to catch the eye of future Ballon d’Or voters.
The outcome of the match against Aston Villa will indicate how well Yamal can elevate his performance this season.
