Headline: Atletico Madrid’s Gil Marin Criticizes Barcelona Over Julian Alvarez Saga

Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the chief executive of Atletico Madrid, did not hold back when addressing FC Barcelona’s management regarding the situation surrounding Julian Alvarez.

While attending the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 draw in Monaco today, Gil Marin used the platform to launch a pointed critique of Barcelona’s handling of the Alvarez case.

    Gil Marin Reiterates Stance

Gil Marin has previously expressed strong opposition to Barcelona, and earlier today, Atletico Madrid issued an official statement confirming that they will not engage in negotiations with the Catalan club, effectively shutting the door on a potential transfer.

Reiterating this stance, the Colchoneros CEO told Movistar: “Julián is genuinely struggling. There have been people who have taken it upon themselves to deceive him and confuse him.”

“I regret it enormously because we’ve been working with him for a long time. He’s a great person, a great professional, and a great footballer, but he’s completely confused,” Added Gil Marin, referring to the state of the Argentine player.

“He’s currently going through a very difficult situation, both personally and professionally,” Gil Marin continued, further discussing Alvarez’s mental state.

    Gil Marin Attacks Laporta

Gil Marin also responded to comments made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who had asserted that the Catalan club continues to express interest in Alvarez and that their proposal remains active.

“We are disgusted by their falsehood, by the lack of ethics, by the lack of transparency, by the lack of professionalism,” Gil Marin said, expressing his thoughts on Laporta’s statements.

Gil Marin once again made it clear that Atletico has no plans to negotiate with Barcelona.

“We can do nothing other than insist that we will not negotiate with FC Barcelona under any circumstances,” he declared.

The remarks from the Atletico CEO highlight the deteriorating relationship between the two clubs. Atletico has firmly ruled out any negotiations regarding Alvarez with Barcelona, even as the latter shows persistent interest in the Argentine forward.

The player himself is still eager for the move, having indicated that he does not wish to join any other club, rejecting overtures from Arsenal. However, at this point, his desired transfer appears unlikely to materialize.

Miguel Angel Gil Marin, Atletico Madrid’s chief executive did not hold back when speaking about FC Barcelona and their handling of the Julian Alvarez saga.

Representing the club at the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 league phase draw in Monaco today, the Atleti CEO took the opportunity to launch a scathing attack on Barça regarding the Alvarez case.

    Gil Marin reiterates stance

Gil Marin has already made strong statements against Barcelona previously, while Atletico Madrid issued an official statement earlier today confirming that they will not negotiate with the Catalans, closing the door on a transfer.

Now, reiterating that stance, the Colchoneros CEO told Movistar: “Julián is genuinely struggling. There have been people who have taken it upon themselves to deceive him and confuse him.”

“I regret it enormously because we’ve been working with him for a long time. He’s a great person, a great professional and a great footballer, but he’s completely confused,” the Atletico executive added.

“He’s currently going through a very difficult situation, both personally and professionally,” Gil Marín continued, referring to the Argentine’s state of mind.

Gil Marin also addressed Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s comments from the previous day, when the Barcelona president confirmed that Barça remained interested in Alvarez and that their proposal was still on the table.

“We are disgusted by their falsehood, by the lack of ethics, by the lack of transparency, by the lack of professionalism,” he said reacting to Laporta’s statements.

Gil Marin once again made Atlético’s position crystal clear.

“We can do nothing other than insist that we will not negotiate with FC Barcelona under any circumstances,” he stated.

The Atletico CEO’s comments underline the extent of the breakdown in relations between the two clubs.

The Spanish capital side has completely ruled out negotiating Alvarez’s transfer with Barça, despite the Catalan club maintaining their interest in the Argentine forward.

The player himself remains keen on the switch and has made it clear that he does not wish to join any other club, rejecting overtures from Arsenal. But, as things stand, the striker does not seem likely to get his dream transfer.
