FC Barcelona continues to advance in their pursuit of Manchester City and Spanish midfielder Rodri, but they appear to have encountered a setback in their efforts to sign Julian Alvarez. The Atletico Madrid and Argentina striker has emerged as the La Liga champions’ primary target this summer as they seek to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona’s initial offer of €100 million was rejected by Los Colchoneros, who have clearly stated their reluctance to part ways with the 26-year-old.

According to Matteo Moretto on Radio MARCA, Barcelona has almost given up on acquiring Alvarez, viewing the deal as ‘impossible’.

Despite Alvarez’s declaration of wanting to leave, Atletico Madrid has remained steadfast in their position throughout the summer. Barcelona has made continued efforts to gain ground, with sporting director Deco traveling to Madrid this week to meet with the player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo.

Reports suggest that Alvarez, upon returning to training next week, may reiterate his desire to leave, to put further pressure on Atleti.

Despite these developments, the Rojiblancos remain committed to their position, leading Barcelona to view the pursuit of Alvarez as nearly impossible.

Barcelona Explores Alternatives

In light of the current situation, Barcelona has started to consider alternative options in the transfer market to strengthen their centre-forward position. They have already lost out on several backup choices, with Joao Pedro finalizing a new contract at Chelsea, Eli Junior Kroupi out for months due to injury, and Fisnik Asllani heading to RB Leipzig.
