Barcelona Closes Supporters’ Cheering Section Following El Clasico Incidents

Barcelona Suspends Supporters’ Section Ahead of Key Match Against Alaves

Barcelona is facing a challenging week following back-to-back defeats against PSG and Real Madrid. Hansi Flick’s side desperately seeks to regain their winning form as they prepare to meet Deportivo Alaves at home this weekend, a match that holds significant importance for the Catalan team.

However, the club will enter this crucial match without the organized backing of one of their most passionate fan groups. The Barcelona board has decided to temporarily suspend the operation of Gol 1957 for Saturday’s league match against Alaves. This announcement comes after the club confirmed the decision due to a series of disciplinary proceedings involving supporters following the recent Clasico.

In a statement, Barcelona declared, “FC Barcelona has decided to suspend the operation of Gol 1957, known as the supporters’ section, for the next league match against Alaves.”

Incident Leads to Disciplinary Actions

The decision follows several incidents during the clash with Real Madrid that have attracted scrutiny. La Liga documented 17 incidents connected to the Clasico, with 10 involving Barcelona supporters, including offensive chants aimed at players and throwing objects onto the pitch during Real Madrid’s celebrations. One specific incident involved a supporter from Gol 1957 striking Eduardo Camavinga with a flag.

Barcelona has warned that continued disciplinary actions could expose the club to financial penalties or even a potential stadium closure.

Temporary Suspension with Future Plans

The suspension of Gol 1957 is designed to be temporary, not a permanent closure. The club plans to engage with representatives from the supporters’ section in the coming days to establish clear commitments regarding acceptable behavior at matches.

Barcelona aims to return to normal operations in time for their Champions League match against Aston Villa on Tuesday. If discussions yield positive results and sufficient guarantees for acceptable behavior, the club hopes to have the supporters’ section fully operational for the encounter.

While Hansi Flick’s Barcelona will miss the atmosphere usually created by Gol 1957, it is essential for the club to address these issues before they escalate further. The outcome of the upcoming talks will determine if the supporters’ group will be able to rally behind the team for the critical clash against Aston Villa.
